Apex Vitality was born from two sides of the same frustration — a provider who never had enough time to truly listen, and a family who knows exactly what it feels like to not be heard.
John's training was in conventional medicine — and for years, he did his best inside a system that left almost no room to listen. With a packed patient load every day, appointments became a race against the clock.
He started to notice himself telling patients their labs weren't showing signs of anything that would cause what they were describing. He felt himself slipping into the provider trap of assuming people were just looking for attention — and it didn't sit right.
When John went to the doctor himself, he wanted answers. He wanted someone to listen to his explanation of how he felt. And he realized he wasn't able to give his own patients that same space.
He'd drive home exhausted, carrying guilt for not being able to show the empathy his patients deserved — and missing the inspiration that brought him to medicine in the first place.
I felt myself not allowing my patients to tell me how they felt, because I was so pressed for time. That's not why I went into medicine.John Bagby
Years ago, Yang-mi went to the emergency room. She explained her symptoms clearly — but the doctor had already decided what was wrong. He pushed a simple diagnosis and was ready to send her home without any imaging.
John knew something wasn't right. He explained that her symptoms didn't match what the doctor was suggesting, and he had to advocate for her — hard. The imaging was done, fully expected to come back clear. It didn't. Yang-mi needed to be admitted for a life-threatening illness.
That day is why John went into healthcare: so no one else would have to go through a misdiagnosis like that. It's also why, years later, he knew the system itself had to change.
Despite his best intentions, John reached a point where he realized the system was set up in a way that kept him from his original goal: to listen, to help and to heal.
So he left his clinical job and started his own practice — built around time, education and real partnership. Functional medicine connected naturally with everything he'd already learned. The fundamentals of foundational health just made sense.
Today, he finally gets to do what he always wanted: listen to people tell their side of the story.
No rushed appointments. You get the time and attention you need and deserve.
So many chronic struggles come down to education and trust. We guide you through a coaching approach, every step of the way.
Your body knows how to run right. Our job is to find what's getting in the way — and help it get what it needs.
Yang-mi knows firsthand what it feels like to explain your symptoms clearly — and still not be believed. That experience lives at the center of everything Apex Vitality does.
She brings a woman's perspective to your care, and a simple promise: you will be listened to, taken seriously and supported like family.
As parents of a child with special needs, John and Yang-mi also know what real, bone-deep tired feels like — the juggling, the worry, the days when there's nothing left for yourself. They built this practice for women living that life.
Too many women are left to figure out their health alone — a string of rushed appointments with no support in between. Our vision is to change that by creating a community instead of a bunch of individuals with no support.
If you're exhausted, frustrated and tired of being told everything looks "normal," let's talk. We'll take the time to hear your whole story — and help you find your way back to feeling like yourself.
